The ITAG Hackathon is a computer programming and game design competition which teams participate internationally online or if they decide can participate locally here at the host Nottingham Trent University.

This Hackathon is part of an IEEE academic conference called the Interactive Technologies and Games Conference (ITAG).

Eligibility

Anyone can take part.

  • Pre-build code and assets are allowed, but they must be in the public domain. Any open source materials used must be listed during the entry submission.
  • Teams are only required to submit a 3-5 minute presentation video of their entry, this video can be taken with your phone or a screen capture tool like CamStudio.

Requirements

Contestants will be given a platform to submit to, this will be announced to all registered contestants through e-mail.

Judging Criteria

  • Usability
    How accessible are the game options and game controls? (Is the game designed to be intuitively controlled? Has user accessibility been considered?) Are the game objectives clear? (Does the game provide obvious game challenges, rules and rewards?)
  • Gameplay
    How enjoyable is the game dynamic? (Is the game fun, engaging and a novel concept?) Is there potential for long-term gameplay? (Is there a possibility to keep the user engaged for a long periods of time?)
  • Mission
    How well is the subject taught? (How well does the game meet the learning objective of the Hackathon theme?) How many different aspects of the subject are attempted? (How many dimensions of the learning objective have been covered?)
  • Voting System
    Teams will be placed using an online voting system by the ITAG Delegates in 1rst, 2nd 3rd… place Voting takes place 7.30 - 9 pm at the National Video Game Arcade, Nottingham. Results will be posted on website and emailed to all registered teams.
